As an organ donor, you become a beacon of hope to patients whose organs have failed. For most of these patients, organ transplant is usually the only solution for them to live on.
Your decision to support organ donation could save the lives of others.

BEING AN ORGAN DONOR

Being an organ donor

As an organ donor under the Human Organ Transplant Act (HOTA), you will be able to donate your kidneys, liver, heart and corneas for transplantation in the event of death.

All Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents who are 21 years old and above, and are not mentally disordered, are included under the Human Organ Transplant Act (HOTA), unless they have opted out.

Your altruistic commitment can also bring immense comfort and relief for family members of organ recipients, as it is never easy to helplessly watch as your loved one suffers.

The need for organ donors has never been greater. To learn more about HOTA, visit here.

LET YOUR FAMILY KNOW
ABOUT YOUR DECISION

Most people support organ donation but their family members may not know of their decision. If you support organ donation, start a conversation with your family members today.

CHOOSE TO PLEDGE YOUR ORGANS

Choose to pledge your organs

You can choose to donate organs and tissues such as lung, bone, skin, heart valves, trachea and your whole body under the Medical (Therapy, Education and Research) Act (MTERA) for the purposes of transplantation, education or research upon death. You could also choose to specify those organs you wish to donate.

Under the MTERA, anyone 18 years old and above can sign up as an organ pledger. As an organ pledger, you could save the lives or others, and you could contribute to help further the research and discovery of live-saving medical procedures.

To find out more about MTERA, please read here.

Dealing with the loss of a loved one is never easy. If you would like to be an organ donor, do inform your family members about your decision to donate your organs after death, so that they can take comfort in the fact that their loss may help to save or improve the lives of others.
